We humans tend to want to know exactly how everything is going to turn out before we get started on something. Have you ever noticed that? I bet you have. Most people don't relish the idea of having disappointments, not having events and circumstances turn out the way we would like them to. So we basically turn into control freaks and we make our way through our lives trying to micromanage things in such a way as to diminish any chance of having anything bad happen to ourselves or our loved ones.
I'm not going to argue with the fact that in the physical world we live in, a certain amount of forethought and planning comes in handy. There is a certain practicality to it. But I also notice, both in myself and in others, that we give away most of the joy and happiness that can be found in the present moment, with our obsessive thinking, worrying, planning and scheming of things to come. The stress associated with this, particularly in our society, is immense and it is literally killing us.
We have lost the ability to simply trust in that which is larger than us. You can call it God, Universe, Spirit, Ground of Being, Allah, and a whole host of other names, but we are all talking about the same thing - the driving Force that is the substance of all things. As so many of our spiritual masters have taught us, we are a part of this Source, we are God's children. Yet, in a way, we disown Spirit - we disown this part of ourselves - and we attempt to live our lives as though we alone, are in charge of things. We fail to let go and trust the very Essence of what creates this universe and keeps it operating with perfect precision.
I was reading The Secret (by Rhonda Byrne) recently and one of the contributors to the book, Jack Canfield, made an interesting observation (Jack Canfield is one of the authors of the famous Chicken Soup For The Soul series). It went like this:
"Think of a car driving through the night. The headlights only go a hundred to two hundred feet forward, and you can make it all the way from California to New York driving through the dark, because all you have to see is the next two hundred feet. And that's how life tends to unfold before us. If we just trust that the next two hundred feet will unfold after that, and the next two hundred feet will unfold after that, your life will keep unfolding. And it will eventually get you to the destination of whatever it is you truly want, because you want it."
Most of us have heard the statement "Ask and you shall receive". And many of us are pretty good at asking, but few of us are good at letting go and allowing God to do His work.........we insanely want to do it all for Him....to make sure we are in control and don't end up being disappointed. In other words...we don't trust God! think about that for a minute....."You don't trust God." Let me ask you a simple straight forward question - If you are not going to trust the Supreme Being, the Alpha and Omega, the All That Is, the Creator of the Universe.....just who in the hell are you going to trust?
Learn to ask for what you desire, let go and just focus on the next two hundred yards. Let God handle the rest of the journey. I guarantee if you start approaching life in this manner, you will have less stress, fewer worries, experience more health and well being than you ever could imagine. Life becomes a fun, spontaneous journey. Knowing that no matter what happens....good or bad.....that we are taken care of in a larger sense - far beyond our knowledge and comprehension. All ends up being good if you allow it.
